Daybreak Audio has launched Omega Knob, a streamlined, free version of their flagship multiband compressor Omega Comp.
Omega Knob gives users the default Omega Comp preset in a single-knob format, acting as both a teaser for the full plugin and a genuinely handy quick-fix tool for dynamics control.
The premium version, Omega Comp, is currently on sale for $57 (regular price $119) and offers a deeper feature set. You can hear it in action in Daybreak Audio’s official demo video on YouTube.
Despite its minimal interface, Omega Knob is built on the same powerful processing engine as Omega Comp. It offers multiband compression that can handle anything from subtle levelling to aggressive squashing, along with a single-band clipper to tame peaks and add a touch of saturation.
The plugin boasts an impressive dynamic range capability, from –200 dBFS to 0 dBFS, and features a resizable GUI for a more flexible workflow. Compatible with both VST3 and AU formats on Windows and macOS, Omega Knob is an ideal choice when you need to add punch, smoothness, or volume quickly without getting lost in complex settings.
Daybreak Audio is a brand-new name, with Omega Comp and Omega Knob being their first releases. And like many debut launches, there were some hiccups.
Initially, the download and installation process for Omega Knob was less than smooth. Although the plugin was free, users still had to pass through a checkout system, which returned repeated “not available” errors across various payment gateways.
When downloads did work, the only available file was a generic .zip with no clear indication of format. Some users reported antivirus warnings (especially for the Windows installer) and macOS users encountered “invalid file type” errors, even when the extension was correct.
These issues made installation frustrating or impossible for early adopters.
Omega Knob is more than just a marketing tool for Omega Comp — it’s a genuinely useful, dead-simple compressor for when speed matters. If you like the sound and workflow, the full Omega Comp offers much greater control and versatility.
With the download issues now sorted, there’s nothing stopping you from trying it out.
